Chinua Achebe is one of Africas most influential and widely published writers. He has written twenty-one novels, short stories, children books and collections of poetry. Achebe was born in on November 19, 1930, in Ogidi, Nigeria. He was christened Albert Chinualumogu Achebe. Achebe was born the son of Isaiah Okafo, a Christian churchman, and Janet N. Achebe. Achebe describes growing up in Eastern Nigeria as breathing at the crossroads of cultures. Achebe was raised an Ibo Christian, which made him stand by among his peers.
